As part of the overall Vineman competition, Vic required each team to submit a "quote." Strass came up with a poem which was created at 4am in Santa Rosa. Here is the complete text...

John's Poem...

The Quote

It was determined in October that Vineman would serve as the contest,
A half ironman race in California to see who was the best.

Posturing and trash talking soon came about,
Mostly from Bob, learning to swim like a trout.

The older folks put in the hours but proceeded to overtrain,
The younger guys focused on eliminating weight gain.

But enough about the training, let's get to the details of the big race,
Because everyone wants to know who was victorious and who was a disgrace.

It was completely dark when the alarms went of at four in the morning,
This was going to be a long day for everyone but it would be far from boring.

Fifty-five degrees was the temperature when we arrived at the Russian River,
We all donned our wetsuits to stay warm but began to shiver.

After a nice swim it was time to hit the beautiful bike course,
Unbelievable scenery complete with wineries, cows and even a horse.

The weather warmed quickly as we all headed out on the run,
It was quite clear that these 13.1 miles would be absolutely no fun.

The boys crossed the finish line first, sat around and waited
They thought they had won, but who knows, the scoring system is so complicated!

So now it is up to the judges and Vic The Commish,
To see who is responsible for cooking and serving the main dish.

Win, lose or draw, it's all about the great friends we have made,
That is of course unless the judges are willing to be paid.

But seriously friends, we are all winners in my book,
Especially since Bob and the other team now has to cook.
