Tour De Kirkwood 2005...
Who would have thought that a conversation over wine in cheese in Napa would lead to this??? Well it did! The girls followed through on their promise to go MANO A MANO A MANO in the Tour De Kirkwood triathlon for the title of "Queen Of Kirkwood." The race featured a 1/4 MILE SWIM, AN 11 MILE BIKE AND A 2.3 MILE RUN. Weekend storms held off Sunday morning much to the delight of those doing this non-competitive race. Temps reached 74 degrees as Suzy, Julie and Marianne jumped into the pool. Armed with varying degrees of triathlon experience, these three ladies looked like lemmings as they powered through the closed water swim. Suzy was first out of the water with a time of 9:30, however, she blew her early lead by kissing Jack several times before heading to T1. Marriane didn't make that mistake - she hardly spent any time changing and was on her way in pursuit of Julie who was out hammering on the bike. These ladies put on quite a show as they blazed their way around Kirkwood. Careful to avoid the debris caused by the severe weekend weather, the girls hit top speeds on the bike before transitioning to the run. This is what seperated the women from the girls. In the end Julie Pepper was just to "Hot" to handle as she coasted to an easy victory. Marianne and Suzy followed shortly thereafter but the damage had been inflicted. All in all a great day for everyone. It was nice to turn the tables and let the ladies have a go at the triathlon circuit. Don't get too comfortable though, the boys don't plan to sit on the sideline much longer! Congratulations to everyone for turning in top notch performances.
